Project Summary

As a result of the client’s Crude Expansion Project increasing plant capacity from 65,000 BPSD to 75,000 BPSD, the client is adding two new truck bay loading stations at the refinery to handle the incremental diesel production.

IPM performed engineering and design for client’s Truck Lane Expansion Project.

Project Highight Features Include:

  • Working with the client for proper loading rates, pathways, and automation.
  • Configuration of the truck loading control system and accounting meters
  • Integrated Solutions: process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation delivered in a complete construction package.
  • IPM performed a hydraulic study of the pumps and piping for the loading system. The study determined that an existing spare pump could be utilized for the project’s booster pump. This eliminated the need for a new pump.  Programming by IPM turned on the booster pump when 3 loading arms were active.  This reduced the loading time in the lanes per the project requirements.
  • During construction, still keep the current ULSD loading racks in operation to minimize any downtime.

Project Scope

The project included process development, estimating, P&ID development, site preparation, process piping design and hydraulic studies, loading controls, programming, instrumentation, electrical, custody transfer metering, loading arms, structural steel, foundations, traffic control and paving.

The project’s purpose was to add two new diesel lanes with the following requirements:

  • Diesel Loading Rack with the ability for single truck to use one or two load arms simultaneously
  • Additives and dye to be injected at the rack
  • Update two existing lanes to have aviation additives injections at the rack
  • Design the staging area to optimize truck flow (in, out) and reduce the number of trucks on the public roads (nuisance to other public traffic)
  • Increase the loading rate for existing Diesel Lanes
  • Install a new pump to handle these loading rack requirements
